Free Speed Reading Courses at University of Illinois – Chicago (UIC)
Chicago, IL – September, 22 2008 – The Iris Organization, in coordination with the Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, offered free speed reading classes today to students at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). The free courses taught student basic speed reading tips and technqiques to help them read faster and keep up with their textbook reading.
At this point in the college semester, many students have fallen behind in their reading. Over fifty students attended each speed reading course to learn how to read faster, with many increasing their reading speed within the sessions.
Speed reading was first popularized in the 1960′s by Evelyn Wood. Mrs. Wood became famous for teaching speed reading techniques to John F. Kennedy. Until the 1990′s her classes could be found on many college campuses through the United States. She passed away in 1995 at the age of 86.
“We want to pick up after the great legacy Evelyn Wood left,” said Paul Nowak, an instructor and class coordinator with the Iris Organization. “We’ve refined the original speed reading techniques to make them more applicable to today’s college student. In addition to reading their textbooks faster, we teach students to read faster on the computer screen using a newly developed technology called Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP).”
Students interested in learning more can watch free speed reading videos, otherwise known as online webinars, by visiting the Iris Organization’s website at www.irisreading.com/speedreadingwebinars.
